The Western Cape, renowned for its patchwork of farmlands, breathtaking mountain ranges and unique scenery, offers a scenic retreat for those seeking relaxation and restoration. What better way to experience the region’s beauty than by unwinding in a luxurious hot tub with incredible mountain views as far as the eye can see? In this blog, we explore three of our favourite hot tub destinations that are well worth a visit:
Hemel N Aarde Stud, Hermanus
If a more magical spot exists, we’d like to hear it. Hemel n Aarde Stud Farm holds a special place in our hearts as it’s also the location where our founders at THTC got engaged. A collection of idyllic just-for-two bungalows are spread throughout an enchanting working stud farm in the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley between Hermanus and Caledon.
You’re promised unforgettable views, no matter the cabin you choose. The private deck offers surround-views of the Babylon Tower Mountain Range and the stud farm’s open fields of grazing horses. Soak your worries away in a wood-fired hot tub on your private deck (or in your en-suite glass-encased bathroom), joined by majestic horses in the fields below.
Founder’s tip: If you visit on a weekend, head to the Hermanus Country Market for breakfast on Saturday morning. You won’t regret it.
Distance from Cape Town: 90 minutes.
Bokrivier Cottages, Greyton
Bokrivier Cottages offers a get-away-from-it-all escape on a working pecan nut farm in Greyon. Set beneath the Riviersonderend Mountain range, you’ll find six modern cottages, each with a private hot tub, indoor fireplace and grassy lawn with exceptional mountain views.
We stayed at Choktaw and loved the solitude of this little cottage, backed by a veggie patch with homegrown salad greens and lemon trees. An indoor fireplace and a wood-fired hot tub (or splash pool) make this a great visit all-year round, but especially when the weather gets a little cooler. If you can pull yourself out of the hot tub, you’ll find no less than 30km of hiking trails to explore.
Founder’s tip: Take a hike through 300 hectares of virgin Renosterveld and up lofty mountain-fynbos covered peaks for views that are worth the climb.
Distance from Cape Town: 2 hours.
Noah’s Farm, Tulbagh
If you’re up for an adventure, camping at Noah’s Farm offers the perfect blend between getting away from it all, while still enjoying the luxuries of a hot shower in your own private bathroom. Arrive early to navigate the gravel trails before sun-down and set up your camp in time to soak in the sunset views over the valley.
A massive hot tub is tucked within the trees, more than big enough to fit your fellow campers – and then some. There’s no power in any of the campsites, but the bathroom and kitchen area are well lit.
Founder’s tip: Book campsite four for a little more space, set further away from the other campsites.
Distance from Cape Town: 90 minutes.
